Subject description
Economic history is the science of how people's material living conditions change, and is shaped at different times and in different parts of the world, globally, nationally, regionally and locally. Traditional areas of interest within economic history are supply, production and distribution of resources as well as institutional changes and the interaction between people, markets, and states.

Main responsibilities
The successful applicant will be required to assume overall responsibility for research and education at the doctoral/research level in Economic History including the development of the subject area, teaching and supervision at all levels as well as pursue own research is also included. The successful applicant will be responsible for information about research and development work and participation in the planning of research projects. Planning (incl. applications for research funding for own and others’ research projects), and management and participation in research projects. Undertake assignments of administrative nature, incl. management at the institution and at other levels within the Stockholm university.

Qualification requirements
To be qualified for appointment as a professor the applicant must demonstrate both scientific and pedagogical skills. The scientific skills should have been demonstrated through independent research in economic history that is significantly more advanced from the requirements for an associate professorship, both in quantitative and qualitative methods. Proven skills in planning and management of research will also be given weight. 

Pedagogical skills must have been demonstrated through teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The assessment of teaching skills should cover both the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching and research supervision.

The applicant must have the ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise needed to perform the duties well.

The pedagogical expertise shall be well documented and in a way that the quality can be assessed. 

Assessment criteria 
Special and equal emphasis will be paid to teaching and scientific proficiency relevant to the subject. The primary consideration for the assessment of scientific skill will be scientific quality. Also the scope of research in terms of depth and extensiveness will be given importance. The assessment of scientific proficiency shall take into account quality and independent ability to develop and manage research projects, and contribution to international scientific knowledge through publication in international journals or other internationally available publications.

Strong emphasis will be given to documented ability to cooperate with colleagues and fellow researchers.

Strong emphasis is placed on successful supervision of doctoral research/theses.

Strong emphasis will be attached to successful planning, application and securing research grants from external funding agencies.

Strong emphasis is attached to the ability to work with academia within economic history.

Emphasis will also be placed on administrative skills and on the ability to collaborate with surrounding social environment and to inform about research and development.

It is a merit if you have the following:

• If you have completed at least 15 credits in teaching and learning in higher education or have otherwise acquired the equivalent knowledge.

• Undergone training/course in research supervision.

• Good knowledge and experience of the Swedish economic historical research.

An applicant who does not have at least 15 credits in teaching and learning in higher education and has not been assessed as otherwise having the corresponding knowledge must undergo such courses during the first two years of employment.

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be prepared to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require proficiency in Swedish within two years of employment.
